Two teens taken into custody after running through Scotland Neck with handgun, assault-style rifle

Police on Monday said they took two teens into custody after they ran through Scotland Neck with guns.

According to the Scotland Neck Police Department, officers received a call just before 5 p.m. about armed subjects in the area of Shilo Baptist Church on Roanoke Street.

Officers said they observed a 17-year-old running around the area of East 12th Street with an assault-style weapon and another 17-year-old running around the area with a handgun.

The two 17-year-olds ran, and police apprehended them after a foot chase. Officers found one gun in one of the 17-year-olds’ possession and another recovered during the chase.

Police said while the teens pose a danger to the community, North Carolina's juvenile law does not allow us to hold them, and we had to release them to their guardians

Police say they are seeking juvenile petitions for the teens for going armed to the terror of the public, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying concealed, tampering with evidence and fleeing arrest.
